Joyce Morrison, Executive Artistic Director of the Maryland Regional Ballet Company for the past 36 years, has had a long career in the field of dance. She has studied at the School of American Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre School and the Joffrey School of Ballet. She has performed with several companies including a tour of England with the Harlequin Ballet. She studied choreography under Leonide Massine (the shoemaker in the film, "The Red Shoes"), on his private island of Galli, off the coast of Italy. Mrs. Morrison also studied choreography under Andree Howard, choreographer for the Royal Ballet in London, England.
In addition to teaching at the Frederick School of Classical Ballet, she has taught at the Peabody Preparatory and the Wally Saunders Dance Studio in Baltimore and at Hood College in Frederick. Mrs. Morrison has been teaching ballet in Frederick for the past 46 years. She has owned and directed the Frederick School of Classical Ballet for the past 42 years and continues to provide classes of professional quality to local students.
Her students have obtained the necessary skills to secure placement in the following major schools: School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre School, Robert Joffrey School, San Francisco Ballet School, North Carolina School of the Arts, National Academy of Arts, Washington School of Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Pennsylvania School of Ballet, Kirov Ballet Academy USA, Boston Ballet School, Ft. Worth Ballet School, and St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. Students have performed with the following professional companies: Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theater, Washington Ballet, Houston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, State Ballet of Missouri, Lake Erie Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Metropolitan Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Louisville Ballet, Dallas/Fort Worth Ballet and New York City Ballet.
In addition to a career in dance, Joyce Morrison has a BS and an MBA degree from Hood College and is a Certified Public Accountant.
